Life in Gbaramatu Kingdom

Editor’s note: Nigerian soldiers have several times raided Gbaramatu Kingdom in search for former Niger Delta war lord Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, and other militants causing the havoc in the region.

Donald O.O Ejewentotor Esq, one of the NAIJ.com readers, sent us the poem about life in Gbaramatu Kingdom since the increase in the attacks of the Niger Delta militants.

Life in Gbaramatu Kingdom (by Donald O.O Ejewentotor Esq)

In Gbaramatu Kingdom without delay

They murdered peace

Men, women all in disarray

Reasons for the brutality, I cannot really trace

But in Gbaramatu they wail.

In Gbaramatu, they arrest all on sight

And so like birds, they’ll have to run without a perch

All are scattered under the sun and the moon light

I too, cannot tell the purpose of this aimless search

But for being in Niger Delta, Gbaramatu is this Nazi’s delight

In Okporoza, like the Wiwas, the innocent is the victim

Even the sucklings are chased without a pardon

Unlike power, desertion is stable in Gbaramatu Kingdom

Anytime they dare say poisoning of Escravos river breeds famine

In Gbaramatu,

Both the old and young die together

Their inherited ecosystem has been dismantled

And all that’s left is blighted land and poisoned fishes to gather

It’s a long lingering agony in successive change of mantle

But Niger Deltans first, must unify to fight this together
