– Motorists lament bad state of Lagos-Ibadan expressway

Motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan highway have continued to express grievances over the slow work pace on the road.

Some of the road users described the construction of the road as baseless.

According to a motorist in the area, who refused to mention his name: “this road has been like this for a long time now, and this is really affecting operations because we use more fuel in the traffic.

“We know that the government is trying to make the road better for us, but the construction company needs to be fast about it because this road is a very busy road in the country which so many people cannot do without plying on daily basis.”

Another road user and a trader who lives at the Asese area of the road expressed displeasure while speaking with NAIJ.com’s

The road user who claimed that he spends four hours from Asese to Bergar said that the development has been unfair to the residents who work in Lagos.

“This is very unfair to us making ends meet in Lagos. I now wake up as early as 4am which I am very sure of that I will spend not less than three hours in the traffic. My business has slowed because I trade in Ogba market and I get to my store late in the morning after my colleagues would have made some sales in the morning.”

NAIJ.com also learnt that the gridlock had built up on the expressway from the long bridge to the Asese area of Mowe.

Some motorists, who could not bear the traffic, were closely observed driving against the traffic.

According to some motorist, the adoption of plying a one-way route was because of the heavy gridlock in the area.

A resident of Arepo, who identified himself only as Afolabi, said the trend was dangerous as it could result in fatal accidents.

Just like the road users in the area, a motorist who identified himself as Lekan Olarewaju pleaded that the government should hasten up in an attempt to serve the citizens better.

Meanwhile, an official of Julius Berger plc, who refused to mention his name because he is not in the position to talk on the matter, said that the company was working hard to finish the construction in good time.

Meanwhile, life threatening accidents have continued to hit the expressway as not fewer than nine persons have been killed in a recent accident on the busy highway.
