– Olisa Metuh said he wants to be left out of the crisis rocking the PDP
– He said his name was erroneously added to the suit filed to stop the party’s national convention
– According to him, he is too focused on his health and trial to be concerned about politics
Chief Olisa Metuh, a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked to be left out of the controversies bedeviling the party.
He said he hand no hand in the suit seeking to stop the party’s national convention scheduled for August 17, stressing that he was too preoccupied with his health and trial to have time for politics, The Cable reports.
Chief Metuh said he wants to be left out of PDP crisis
This was contained a statement released on Thursday, July 28, by his media aide, Richard Ihediwa.
The statement read: “Metuh wishes to inform the general public that he is not part of the suit seeking to stop the convention and he never instructed anyone to file any such suit on his behalf.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Metuh has taken the pains to consult those that went to court and has been reliably informed that his name was listed in error and which they have promised to rectify accordingly.
“It is pertinent to mention that Chief Metuh has not attended any political meeting and/or programme since his chair accident at a function at the party’s national secretariat in April wherein it aggravated his spinal cord ailment.
“Our appeal therefore is that Chief Metuh at this time should be left out of intra-party controversies. His only preoccupation now remains matters concerning his health and the extant court trial.”
Metuh, who is currently on bail, is facing trial over N400 million slush arms purchase cash which he allegedly collected from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
Since its botched May 21 national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the PDP has been enmeshed in series of crisis over the chairmanship position and other national executives of the party.
The party sacked Ali Modu Sheriff as its chairman and constituted a caretaker committee led by Ahmed Makarfi. However, Sheriff has refused to step down, insisting he remains the chairman of the party.
Report surfaced on Thursday that the embattled factional PDP chairman, Sheriff and others approached a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the planned national convention of the party.
Metuh was listed as one of those who filed the suit against the convention alongside Sheriff.
