– Milind Soman is called the Ironman
– Soman is now running barefoot from state to state in India
– This means no cycling, trains, buses or car rides. Oh, and no planes either
Milind Soman
50-year-old Milind Soman who loves running is called the Ironman. Why?
Milind Soman is an Ironman, having won the Ironman triathlon championships last year. He completed a course of a 3.8-km swim, an 180.2-km cycle ride and a 42.2-km run in just over 15 hours.
According to Wikipedia, an Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda Group, consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run, raced in that order and without a break.
It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.
Most Ironman events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to complete the race. The race typically starts at 7:00 a.m.; the mandatory swim cut off for the 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim is 9:20 a.m. (2 hours 20 minutes), the mandatory bike cut off time is 5:30 p.m. (8 hours 10 minutes), and the mandatory marathon cut off is midnight (6 hours 30 minutes).
Any participant who manages to complete the triathlon within these timings becomes an Ironman.
He isn’t stopping however, he has decided to run between cities in different states – barefoot. Milind Soman wants to run from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, India. He started running on Tuesday,July 26th.
This means no cycling, trains, buses or car rides. Oh, and no planes either. Just him, his bare feet and the road.
And his progress so far? He ran 67 kilometers in just one day! This is him when he reached Anand.

He points out that the weather is very humid, and if you look closely, he is sweating a lot too. But that has not made him give up!
We wish Milind Soman the best in his endeavor to complete The Great Run. See a video of him running here:
Well done Milind Soman.
