-With the victory of the APC candidate in the Imo rerun election, Ekweremadu may soon to be removed
-Even President Buhari reportedly approved this decision of his party
President Buhari during the meeting with the APC governors on July 26, Tuesday.
The Senate president Bukola Saraki and his deputy Ike Ekweremadu have been under attack from the All Progressives Congress (APC) since they emerged leaders of the Senate in 2015 against the wishes of the ruling party.
After the emergence of Ben Uwajimogu as Okigwe North Senatorial district it seems that chances of Senator Ekweremadu to continue as the deputy Senate president are slim.
With the victory of the APC aspirant Mr Ekweremadu may be in for a long battle.
Just recently, on July 26, Tuesday, the governors elected under the platform of the APC met with President Muhammadu Buhari to demand to relieve Ekweremadu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from his duties. The president reportedly approves this demand.
Before this meeting, both APC chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha had addressed the need of replacing him with an APC member.
Okorocha even said that with the possibility of the Imo candidate winning in the senatorial rerun, the days of Ekweremadu as deputy Senate president are numbered.
