Fela Kuti: See What His Children Said About Him 19 Years After

Children of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti have eulogised their father 19 years after he passed on.


The vastly popular singer, activist died on August 2, 1997 in Lagos after his health failed.

His daughter, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti said  “Nineteen years ago our Icon father, leader and father of the Nation left the world stage. He lives in us forever and continues to guide and protect us. That is why Nigeria didn’t go to war against all predictions. Rest in peace Fela. We miss you.”

“The powers that be, beat him mercilessly. Fela they can’t touch you now o!!!! Useless people,” she wrote alongside a picture of him in bandages.

Her elder brother,  Femi Kuti also remembered the father  saying, “19 years since the passing of our father FELA we LOVE U WE MISS U VERY MUCH.”

“19 years a god. 19 years an Orisha. 19years an ancestor!! And by the way the Egypt 80 is still kicking ass!!!” Seun Kuti wrote accompanied with a smiling photo of Fela.

Fela Kuti is fondly remembered by many Nigerians for his evergreen conscious songs and and unique style.
