Super Eagles Captain Mikel Obi has officially changed his name after 13 years of being known as John Obi Mikel.
Mikel whose real name is John Micheal Nchekwube Obinna is popularly known as “Mikel” as a result of a mistake made by the Nigerian Football federation on his submission form for the 2003 FIFA Under-17 World Championships.
After 13 years of being called the wrong name, Mikel changed his name from “John Obi Mikel” to “Mikel John Obi”. It may sound bizarre but the midfielder has decided to change his name for good after getting tired of being called the wrong name.
